How to Make Idli Upma


To make different break fast everyday is a big head ache. And above all it is necessary that the recipe should be good in taste and of course quick also. So I tried to cook a combination of two very popular recipes together. As we all know Idli and are very well known South Indian recipe. I tried to combine both today, and it came out very nicely with less ingredients and efforts. I think Idli Upma is best option for break fast as well as any time snack and above all ideal for kids lunch box also. 



Preparation time - 2 to 3 minutes
Cooking time - 5 minutes
Makes - 2 servings

Ingredients to make Idli Upma:

1 table spoon oil
1 big onion finely chopped
1 tea spoon urad dal
1 table spoon chopped cashews
7 to 8 idlies
( ideally left over)
Salt to taste
8 to 10 curry lraves
A pinch turmeric powder
3 to 3 green chillies finely chopped 
1/2 tea spoon mustard seeds

To serve with:

Coconut chutney 

Method to make Idli Upma:

  • Crumble idlies with hand and keep a side.
  • In a pan heat oil and add mustard seeds. When they crackles add urad dal, cashews, onnion, curry leaves and green chillies. Cook them for 2 minutes.
  • Mean while add turmeric powder and salt to crumbled idlies and mix well. (be careful while adding salt.)
  • Add it to the pan and mix well.
  • Hot and quick Idli upma is ready to serve.

Tips:

  • With the same ingredients veg. idli upma can be made. Add par boiled carrots, boiled green peas, capsicum and tomatoes to it.
