Besan Bhindi Masala Recipe - Besan Bhindi (Besan Wali Bhindi)
Bhindi/okra is also popular as ladies’ fingers or orchro. It is a flowering plant in the mallow family. It is used in many countries. It comes with edible green seed pods.
Basically besan bhindi/bhindi masala is simple in cooking yet great in flavors. It is a staple in Indian dish. Normally it is served with Indian breads like phulks roti, puri or paratha. It is flavored by dry spices & onion. As the name indicates it has a prominent taste of besan. Let’s have a look at the recipe of besan bhindi. Enjoy cooking!
Ingredients to Make Besan Bhindi (Besan Wali Bhindi)
- For bhindi:
- 400 grams bhindi (ladies’ fingers)
- 3 tablespoon oil
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds (jeera)
- A pinch carom seeds (ajwain)
- ½ teaspoon hing (asafoetida)
- 1 onion sliced
- Salt to taste
- For besan:
- 2 to 3 tablespoon dry roasted besan (gram flour)
- 1 tablespoon oil
- Salt to taste
- ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
- 2 teaspoon cumin coriander powder
- ¼ teaspoon amchur powder (dry mango powder)
- ¼ teaspoon garam masala powder
- 1 tablespoon red chili powder
- 2 tablespoon roasted & roughly crushed peanuts
- 2 tablespoon roasted sesame seeds
- 1 teaspoon caster sugar (opt.)
- 2 tablespoon coriander leaves
Method to Make Besan Bhindi (Besan Wali Bhindi):
Method to make besan bhindi:
For bhindi:
• Wash and dry bhindi properly. Slit them & keep a side.
• In a kadhai heat oil. Add cumin seeds & carom seeds to it. Now add hing & onion to it. Let onion cook until soft.
• Now it’s time to add bhiindi to it. Mix well & add salt. Be careful while adding salt, as the bhindi will shrink after cooking.
• Let it cook properly.
For besan:
• In a mixer jar add peanuts, sesame seeds & coriander. Crush them to coarse.
• Mix above mixer with besan, oil & all dry ingredients. Mix properly.
For bhindi masala:
• Add besan mixer to kadhai and mix well.
• Cook them together for 4 to 5 minutes. Stir occasionally.
• When ready remove from flame & transfer to serving bowl.
• Serve hot & flavorful besan bhindi with phulka roti, puri or paratha.
Tips:
• Make sure to dry bhindi properly before cooking as it may be sticky with moisture.
• You can add green chili if you want green color. In that case add 2 to 3 green chili in mixture jar before grinding & avoid red chili powder.
• Always cook bhindi at medium flame.
