How to Make Mexican Takos

Recipe by Naiya Sheth: As we all know tacos is a very well known Mexican recipe. Officially in their language tacos means stomach filling snack. And here we made it with yellow corn flour and refined flour. But here in this home made recipe I tried to make taco shells with typical Indian method. And they came out very nicely. I added kasuri methi in it for better taste. And in stuffing I tried to add more and more vegetables and beans. So enjoy cooking Mexican tacos this summer. 





Preparation time - 10 to 15 minutes
Cooking time - 20 to 25 minutes

Ingredients to make Mexican Takos:

For tako shells:

1 cup refined flour
1/4 cup semolina
1 1/2 table spoon oil
1 table spoon kasuri methi 
Salt to taste
1 tea spoon chilli flacks
1 tea spoon oregano

Oil for frying

For stuffing:

1 tin baked beans
1/2 cup kidney beans - soaked and boiled
1/2 cup soya beans - soaked and boiled
1 big onion finely chopped
1 big capsicum finely chopped
1/2 cup paneer cubes
1/2 cup boiled sweet corn
1 tomato finely chopped - de seeded
Salt to taste
2 tea spoon red chili powder
1 tea spoon chili flacks
1 tea spoon oregano
1 table spoon grated cheese
2 table spoon tomato sauce
2 table spoon oil

For salad:

Grated cabbage
Grated beat
Thin sliced capsicum
Thin sliced onion
Salt to taste
1/2 tea spoon black pepper powder

For garnishing:

Grated cheese

Method to make Mexican Takos:

For stuffing:

  • Heat oil in a pan, add onion and capsicum in it. Cook for 2 minutes and add whole tin of baked beans in it. 
  • Add tomatoes, salt, red chili powder and chili flacks, oregano to it.
  • Cook for 2 minutes. Now add tomato sauce and grated cheese to it. Again cook for a minute.
  • Let it come to room temperature.

For tako shells:

  • Mix all ingredients of shells and make stiff dough from it. Keep a side covered for minimum 20 minutes.
  • Make equal size balls from it and roll it. 
  • Now pick them and fry in hot oil and bend them in "u" shape. 
  • Fry till light pink in colour.
  • When ready remove from oil and drain on kitchen tissue.

For salad:

  • Mix all ingredients together.

How to assemble Mexican takos:

  • In a serving plate take a tako shell and fill some bean mixture in it. 
  • Cover with salad and at last top with grated cheese.
  • All time favourite Mexican Takos is ready to serve.

Tips:

  • Simple round crispies also can be made instead of "u" shaped takos.
