How to Make Broken Wheat Idli

We always makes idli from rice or semolina but now it's time for healthier idli. As we all know that idli is a very healthy option for break fast and even snack also. But some how some diabetic patients can't eat rice idli. So here it's a great option for them and even good for them who want to have some thing new and healthy. We know broken wheat is very healthy. So here it's a home made recipe for broken wheat idli. To which we know as fada or daliya also. I tried to make it more healthy by adding vegetables. So try this yummy healthy recipe of broken wheat idli - cracked wheat idli today.

Preparation time - 10 minutes
Steaming time - 10 to 12 minutes
Cooking time - 3 to 4 minutes
Makes - 8 to 10 idli (approx.)

Ingredients to make Broken Wheat Idli:

1/2 cup broken wheat
1 1/2 cup butter milk
1/2 cup grated carrot
1/2 cup finely chopped cabbage
1/4 cup boiled green peas
Salt t to taste
3 to 4 green chillies finely chopped
A pinch turmeric powder
1/4 tea spoon fruit salt

For tempering:

1 table spoon oil
1/2 tea spoon mustard seeds
5 to 8 curry leaves

Method to make Broken Wheat Idli:

  • Dry roast broken wheat and soak for minimum 30 minutes in butter milk. After that add some water if needed.
  • Add cabbage, carrot, and green peas to it and mix well.
  • Now add seasoning and again mix well.
  • Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds to it, when they crackles add chopped curry leaves and add it to idli better. Mix well and add fruit salt at last. Mix well again.
  • Pore the mixture in greased idli plate and steam in hot steamer for 10 to 10 minutes. Check and remove when ready.
  • Serve hot broken wheat idli with coconut chutney.
