Benefits of Oranges

Oranges are also known santra and narangi.  Orange is one of the finest gift from nature. It's a juicy fruit with sweet and tangy taste. They are one of the most popular fruit in the world. Generally they are available from winter through summer. It grows in tropical, semitropical, evergreen, small flowering tree. It is about 5 to 8 m tall. Oranges are classified into 2 general categories, sweet and beater. It's pulp is also orange in colour and very succulent, surrounded by it's skin.
They are round citrus fruit with of course orange colour. The skin may be thick or thin. Always use good quality firm oranges. The skin should not have any blemish. Bye heavy oranges with fresh bright skin. Avoid to purchase light weight oranges. Also avoid to bye orange with soft spots. After purchasing they should be stored in a cool dark place if need ripping. And if they are properly ripe store in refrigerator. They can be stored for minimum 10 to 15 days. Store them loose not in plastic wrap or bag. Orange juice can be stored as ice cubes in freezer. Even orange zest can be stored in air tight glass container in refrigerator. Normally we are using oranges as it is or as juice, crush, pulp, sauce, zest etc. Oranges are an excellent source of vitamin c and flavonoids. One orange supplies 100% of the  recommended daily dietary intake of vitamin c. It provides good dietary fibers. Oranges are good source of vitamin A, B, amino acid, beta-carotene, pectin, potassium, folic acid, calcium, sodium, zink etc.
