How to Make Gujiya

India is very well known for festivals. Gujiyas are traditional sweet made occasionally. Gujiya is mouth watering sweet with rich stuffing. 

Preparation time – 20 minutes
Cooking time – 30 minutes


Ingredients to make Gujiya:

For stuffing:

½ tin – 200 gram condensed milk
20 to 25 grams semolina
200 gram fresh coconut – grated
2 to 3 tea spoon chopped cashew nuts
1 tea spoon raisins
2 to 3 tea spoon chopped almonds
¼ tea spoon cardamom powder

For outer layer:

150 grams refined flour
3 to 4 table spoon oil
2 table spoon corn flour
Oil for frying

For garnishing:

Sliced pistachio
Sliced almond
Silver foil
Saffron

Method to Make Gujiya:

For outer layer:

Mix all the ingredients of dough and kneed stiff dough. Cover and keep a side for 10 to 15 minutes.

For stuffing:

Roast semolina at very slow flame till it changes color. Mix all other ingredients of stuffing and again cook at slow flame.
Cook till the mixture is dry. Make equal size rounds from it.

For gujiya:

  1. Knead dough again and make equal size balls from it.
  2. Roll round from it and put stuffing on it. Fold over and make gujiya from it. Seal the sides with water.
  3. Deep fry in hot oil. Drain on absorbent kitchen tissue.
  4. Garnish with almond and pistachio slices.
  5. Hot and sweet Gujiya is ready to serve.
