Janmastami Special - Sabudana ni Khichdi

Recipe by Naiya Sheth: Learn how to make Sabudana Khichdi. Janmashtami is the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna and is celebrated all over India. It is a celebration of the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu. This religious festival is celebrated on astami of Krishna paksha of the Shravan month according to the Hindu calendar with great devotion and zeal. It is also known as Gokulashtami and Krishnaasthami. Sabudana ni khichdi is very well known farali dish. Here it's an honest try to make it easy and quick. This recipe is full of starch.





Soaking time - 4 to 5 hours
Cooking time - 5 minutes
Serves - 4 persons

Ingredients to make Sabudana ni Khichdi: 


250 grammes sabudana - sago 
(Washed and soaked for 4 - 5 hours.)
150 grammes potatoes - boiled
1 tablespoon powder sugar
1 tablespoon oil
Salt to taste - sindhav salt
1 teaspoon red chilly powder
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon green chilli finely chopped


For garnishing:


Pomegranate seeds
chopped coriander
Fried potato chips - Farali chevdo 
Roughly crushed masala peanuts


Method to make Sabudana ni Khichdi: 

  • Wash and soak sabudana for 4 to 5 hours in normal water. A few drops of oil while soaking for the better result.
  • Mix all other ingredients to it and transfer to microwave proof bowl.
  • Cook for 1 minute with lead. Repeat the same for 1 minute after stirring.
  • Garnish it with Pomegranate seeds, chopped coriander, Fried potato chips - Farali chevdo, Roughly crushed masala peanuts.
  • Hot and tempting Sabudana ni Khichdi is ready to serve.
Tips:
  • If you are in hurry soak sabudana in Luke warm water. It will take 1 hour to soak. But stir occasionally on both the method.
