Janmastami Special - Milk Cake

Recipe by Naiya Sheth : Learn how to make Milk Cake. Janmashtami is the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna and is celebrated all over India. It is a celebration of the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu. This  religious festival is celebrated on astami of Krishna paksha of Shravan month according to the Hindu calendar with great devotion and zeal. It is also known as Gokulashtami and Krishnaasthami

Here there is a recipe for Milk Cake with the great of Lord Krishna. Which is made from milk, so can be taken during fast also. We call it ' DOODH NO HALWO' also.




Preparation time - 2 to 3 minutes
Cooking time - 25 to 30 minutes
Makes 500 to 600 grammes (approx.)

Ingredients to make Milk Cake:

500 ml. Full-fat milk
1/2 cup milk powder
1 tablespoon ghee
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon alum
For garnishing:


Cardamom powder
Chopped or sliced almond
Chopped or sliced pista
Cardamom
Saffron 

Method to make Milk Cake:

  1. Mix all the ingredients together in a non-stick pan.
  2. Heat it on very slow flame for 15 to 20 minutes.
  3. Stir continually.
  4. When it's colour turns to light pink and ghee is separated the milk cake is ready. 
  5. Pour the mixture into a metal tin and allow to cool at room temperature. 
  6. When it is Luke warm Garnish with chopped almond and cardamom powder.
  7. You can UN mould the Milk Cake in another plat and serve after cutting in small pieces also.  
  8. Calcium rich Milk Cake is ready to serve.
Tips:
  • Sugar and ghee proportion can be changed as per the taste.
  • Always take non - stick vessel for making milk cake.
