The Guilt-Free Festive Crunch: Jaggery & Chocolate Makhana Chikki

Hello foodies! Welcome to Naiya's Kitchen!! 🧑🏻‍🍳😊

If there is one snack that perfectly bridges the gap between traditional Indian soul food and modern indulgence, it’s Chocolate Makhana Chikki. We all grew up love-affairing with the classic peanut brittle, but it’s time for a sophisticated upgrade. Imagine crunchy, roasted fox nuts (makhana) coated in a buttery jaggery glaze, all wrapped in a rich layer of dark chocolate. It’s crispy, it’s decadent, and—dare I say—it’s the guilt-free dessert mashup you didn’t know your pantry was missing.

The smell of melting jaggery always takes me back to chilly winter afternoons and the satisfying snap of homemade chikki. But today, I’m taking those childhood memories and giving them a velvety, cocoa-infused makeover. This Chocolate Makhana Chikki is a celebration of textures: the airy pop of the makhana meets the deep, earthy sweetness of gur and a silky chocolate finish. Whether you’re looking for a unique festive gift or a midnight snack that feels a little bit "fancy," this recipe is about to become your new obsession.

Who says satisfying a chocolate craving has to mean compromising on your health goals? Enter: Chocolate Makhana Chikki. By swapping out heavy fats for protein-packed foxnuts and refined sugar for iron-rich jaggery, we’ve created a "superfood" candy that tastes like a total cheat meal. It’s gluten-free, incredibly easy to whip up, and provides that perfect crunch without the jaw-tiring hardness of traditional nut brittles. Grab your spatula—your snack game is about to level up.

As the kites take to the sky this Makar Sankranti, let your kitchen be filled with the sweet aroma of melting jaggery and cocoa. This Chocolate Makhana Chikki is more than just a recipe; it’s a modern way to keep our traditions alive and exciting for the next generation. Pack it in jars, share it with your neighbors, and celebrate the season of harvest with a crunch that’s truly unforgettable. Wishing you a day filled with sunshine, soaring kites, and plenty of chocolate-covered joy!

Enjoy chocolaty snacking 🍫😋

Ingredients to make Jaggery & Chocolate Makhana Chikki:

1 cup chopped jaggery

2 cup makhana (approx)

1 tablespoon ghee

1/4 teaspoon salt

2 teaspoon cocoa powder

1 teaspoon instant coffee powder

Ghee for greasing

Method to make Jaggery & Chocolate Makhana Chikki:

  • In a non stick pan add ghee and roast makhana until crisp.
  • Keep a side.
  • Add chopped jaggery in same pan and make chashni from it at slow flame.
  • To check the chashni take some water in a small bowl and pour a drop of hot chashni in it. It will give metalic sound after a second. It shows that your chashni is ready. If not again cook until it is ready.
  • Add salt, cocoa powder and coffee powder to it. Mix well.
  • Add makhana to it slowly. Mix well. When you see the makhana are properly coated with jaggery chashni, remove from flame. Make sure to do this process quickly.
  • Spread it over silicon mat. If silicon mat is not available, you can spread it over greased surface like platform or plate.
  • Grease your hand with ghee and carefully and quickly saparate each makhana from another one. Greasing will help you to roll makhana easily.
  • It will give you metalic sound while cool.
  • Store super delicious 😋 Jaggery & Chocolate Makhana Chikki in air tight container.
