Mexican Papdi Chat recipe

Recipe by Naiya Sheth: Once again very easy and fusion recipe. But it is healthy also. From my point of view, this is a smart way to have healthy food with yummy taste. If topping is ready children can also make this mouthwatering recipe of Mexican Papdi Chat themselves. To make this homemade recipe healthier I tried to add lots of pulses and vegetables to it with a tangy taste. Let's enjoy.


Mexican Papdi Chat

Preparation time - 10 to 12 minutes
Soaking time- 4 to 5 hours
Cooking time 30 to 40 minutes

Ingredients to make Mexican Papdi Chat:

For papdi:


1 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup refined flour
1/4 cup rice flour
1/4 cup semolina
Salt to taste
1 tablespoon pepper powder
2 tablespoon oil
1 tablespoon melted ghee

Oil for frying

For toppings:

1 tin baked beans
1/4 cup kidney beans - soaked and boiled
1/4 cup soya beans - soaked and boiled

1/4 cup desi chana - soaked and boiled
1/4 cup boiled sweet corn
1 big onion finely chopped

2 tablespoon crushed garlic
1 big capsicum finely chopped
1 big tomato finely chopped
200 grams small paneer cubes
Salt to taste
2 teaspoon red chili powder
1 teaspoon chili flacks
1 teaspoon oregano
1 tablespoon grated cheese
2 tablespoon tomato sauce
1 tablespoon chili tomato sauce
1/2 teaspoon black pepper powder
1/4 teaspoon carom seeds
2 tablespoon oil

For garnishing:

Grated process cheese
Grated pizza cheese
Chili flacks
Oregano
Mexican seasoning

Mexican Papdi Chat

Method to make Mexican Papdi Chat:


For Papdi:

  • Mix all ingredients of papdi excluding oil for frying. Make semi-soft dough from it.
  • Rest for 10 minutes and then make equal small balls from it.
  • Roll medium thin puri and pick them.
  • Fry them at slow flame until crisp. Drain on an absorbent kitchen tissue.
  • Let them cool and store in an airtight container.

For toppings:

  • Soak all pulse for 4 to 5 hours in hot water. Cook them in a pressure cooker.
  • Heat oil in a pan, add carom seeds. When they crackle add onion, garlic, and capsicum in it. Cook for 2 minutes and add chopped tomatoes to it. Cook until tomatoes are soft. 
  •  Now its time to add all dry ingredients and sauces.
  • Now add tinned baked beans, all pulses, paneer and boiled sweet corn.
  • Cook for 2 to 3 minutes.

How to assemble Mexican Papdi Chat:

  • In a microwave-safe dish place papdi and top with Mexican toppings.
  • Cover with both process and pizza cheese. 
  • Sprinkle some of the chili flacks, oregano and Mexican seasoning.
  • Microwave for 30 to 40 seconds or until cheese melts.
  • Mouthwatering, piping hot Mexican Papdi Chat is ready to eat.
