Preparation time - 10 minutes
Cooking time 10 to 15 minutes
Ingredients to make French Fries:
4 large potatoes
Oil for frying
Salt to taste
Freshly ground black pepper powder
Optional toppings: ketchup, mayonnaise, cheese, herbs, or
spices
Method to make French Fries:
· Peel
the potatoes and then rinse them thoroughly under cold water to remove excess
starch. Pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel.
· Cut
the potatoes into evenly sized sticks. Aim for about 1/4 inch in thickness. You
can use a knife or a French fry cutter for this step.
· Place
the cut fries in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for about 30 minutes.
This helps remove excess starch, resulting in crispier fries.
· In a
large, deep pot, heat oil to 325°F (165°C).
· Drain
the soaked fries and pat them dry with a kitchen towel.
· Fry
the potatoes in batches for about 3-4 minutes per batch. The fries should be
light in colour but not golden yet. This "blanching" step ensures a
soft interior.
· Remove
the blanched fries using a slotted spoon and let them drain on a paper
towel-lined plate. Let them cool for about 10 minutes.
· Heat
the oil to 375°F (190°C).
· Fry
the blanched fries in batches again, this time for about 3-5 minutes or until
they turn golden brown and crispy. This double frying will give extra crisp to
your fries.
· Remove
the fries and drain them on fresh paper towels. Immediately sprinkle with salt &
black pepper powder to enhance the flavour.
· Transfer
the hot and crispy French fries to a serving dish lined with more paper towels
to absorb any excess oil.
· Serve
the fries immediately with your choice of toppings such as ketchup, mayonnaise,
melted cheese, chopped herbs or spices.
· Relish
every bite of these homemade French fries – the perfect blend of crispy outside
and fluffy inside.
