Buttery Garlic Naan

Ingredients to make Buttery Garlic Naan:

For the Naan Dough:

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 tablespoons plain yogurt
2 tablespoons melted butter
3/4 cup warm milk (approximately)

Additional flour for dusting

For the Garlic Butter Topping:

4-5 cloves of garlic, minced
1/4 cup melted butter
Fresh coriander leaves (optional, for garnish)

Instructions to make Buttery Garlic Naan:

For the Naan Dough:

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, sugar, salt and baking powder.
Add the plain yogurt and melted butter to the dry ingredients. Mix them together until they resemble coarse crumbs.
Gradually add warm milk to the mixture. Start with about half and continue adding more as needed to form a soft, smooth and slightly sticky dough.
Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Form it into a ball.
Place the dough ball in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth or plastic wrap and let it rest for at least 1 hour. This allows the dough to rise and develop flavour.

For the Garlic Butter Topping:

While the dough is resting, prepare the garlic butter topping. In a small saucepan, melt the butter over low heat.
Add the minced garlic to the melted butter and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Be careful not to brown the garlic; you just want it to become aromatic. Remove from heat and set aside.

For the Buttery Garlic Naan:

After the dough has rested, divide it into 6-8 equal portions and roll them into balls.
Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
Take one dough ball and roll it out into an oval or round shape, about 1/8 inch thick. You can use a rolling pin and some additional flour for dusting.
Brush one side of the rolled-out dough with the garlic butter mixture.
Place the naan, buttered side down, on the hot skillet or griddle. Cook for 1-2 minutes until it puffs up and the bottom side is golden brown.
While cooking, brush the top side with more garlic butter.
Flip the naan and cook the other side until it's golden brown and has some lovely char spots.
Repeat the process with the remaining dough balls.
Once your buttery garlic naan is cooked to perfection, remove it from the skillet or griddle.
Optionally, garnish with fresh cilantro leaves.
Serve hot with your favourite Indian curry, chutney or as a delicious side to any meal.
