Matar Paneer Recipe
Matar paneer is a modern restaurant style dish. It is vegetarian north Indian dish. This is a very popular recipe from Indian cuisine.
As the name indicates it contains matar (green peas), paneer, tomatoes, spices & herbs. Normally it is served with Indian breads like poori, roti, paratha, naan or rice. Sometimes potatoes are also added to this recipe. The perfect combination of all ingredients gives an impressive explosion of flavor.
Normally, if we purchase paneer (cottage cheese) from market, it may be high in calories. But I always prefer to make fresh paneer at home from law fat milk to make this recipe healthier.
On the other hand paneer is good for bones and teeth. As I mention earlier if it is made from law fat milk it can be helpful in weight loss. It also reduces the risk of cancer. It is an ideal food for diabetic patients. As of some researches it prevents & protects you from diseases.
Green peas are widely available during winter. It should be added in diet as it has some notable health benefits.
They are loaded with plant protein & fiber contain of it boosts digestion. They are also beneficial for heart health. It also helps in weight loss & promotes healthy blood sugar levels.
It is said that Matar Paneer is originated in Punjab but it is cooked in different ways in different part of the country. To make delicious matar paneer first the gravy of onion & tomato is must. Preparation time – 10 minutes

Serves – 4 person
Ingredients to make Matar Paneer:
1 tablespoon oil
1 tablespoon ghee
¼ teaspoon cumin seeds (jeera)
1 teaspoon ginger paste
1 teaspoon garlic paste
1 teaspoon green chili paste
2 tablespoon broken cashews
1 cup onion chopped
1 cup tomato chopped
Salt to taste
1 tablespoon Kashmiri red chili powder
½ tablespoon turmeric powder
1 tablespoon coriander cumin powder
½ tablespoon kasuri methi powder
½ tablespoon kitchen king masala
2 tablespoon cream
1 teaspoon oil
1 cup par boiled green peas
1 ½ cup paneer cubes
For garnishing:
Freshly chopped coriander leaves
Method to make Matar Paneer:
• First of all make paneer if you are using homemade paneer.
• Now it’s a time to par boil green peas.
• Heat oil & ghee in a pan. Add cumin seeds to it. When they crackles add ginger, garlic & green chili paste. Sauté at slow flame. (Instead of paste you can take chopped ginger, garlic & green chilies.)
• Add onion to it and cook until it turns transparent. Now it’s time to add dry spices to it. Add broken cashews to it and cook well.
• Add chopped tomatoes to it & cook well. At last add cream and kasuri methi to it. Mix well and again cook for a minute.
• Keep a side to cool and then churn to smooth paste.
• In another pan add oil and then sauté green peace & paneer cubes. Add a pinch salt & kitchen king masala during cooking.
• Mix well and add above paste to it. Mix well and add water to adjust consistency. Cook covered for 3 to 4 minutes.
• Our piping hot matar paneer is ready to serve. Transfer it to serving bowl & garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves.
Matar Paneer Recipe Tips:
• For making paneer at home boil milk. Add lemon juice/curd/vinegar to curdle it. When ready drain and hang to remove excess water. Make cubes from it.
• In a pan add around 2 ½ cups water and add a pinch salt & sugar to it. Let it boil. At that stage add washed green peas to it. Let it cook and when cooked drain excess water and pour tap water over it to stop cooking process. Drain properly & it’s ready to use.
• Kitchen king masala is there to cut short the cooking process, if it is not available/if you do not want to use it. You need to use khada masala like 2 cinnamons & 1/2” cardamom stick before adding ginger garlic to oil & ghee.
• Sautéing green peas & paneer in kitchen king masala will release great aroma.
