How to Make American Chop Suey

Recipe by Naiya Sheth : Learn how to make American Chop Suey. This is a great combination of boiled and crispy noodles, served with vegetables and sweet & tangy sauce. American Chop Suey is not an authentic Chinese recipe, it's an innovation.

Preparation time - 20 minutes

Cooking time - 10 minutes
Serves - 4 persons

Ingredients to make American Chop Suey:

3/4 cup boiled noodles
1 - 1 1/2 cup fried noodles
1 1/2 cup grated cabbage
1/2 cup sliced onion
1/2 cup mung sprouts (opt)
1/2 cup carrot diagonal cut (parboiled)
1/2 cup french beans diagonal cut ( parboiled) 

Salt to to taste
1/2 tea spoon aaji no motto (opt)
1 tea spoon chilly sauce
1 1/2 table spoon oil

For sweet and tangy sauce:

3/4 cup water
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup vinegar ( brown)
4 table spoon tomato sauce
2 table spoon corn flour
1 table spoon soy sauce

Method to make American Chop Suey:

For Sauce:
  • Mix all the ingredients in a pan,mix well and let it cook till boil.Cook till sauce is thick. Keep a side.
For American chop suey:
  • Heat oil in another pan and add all vegetables and aaji no motto, fry at high flame for 3 - 4 minutes.
  • Add sauce, boiled noodles, salt and chilly sauce, cook for a few minutes.
  • Add 1/2 cup of fried noodles and mix well. 
  • Garnish with fried noodles.
  • Hot and tempting American Chop Suey is ready to serve.
  • Soak noodles in water for 10 - 15 minutes for making boiling process fast.
  • Always add 1 tea spoon oil and 1/2 tea spoon salt in water for boiling noodles.
  • Add fried noodles at the time of serving only.
