Veg Hot Dog Recipe

Hot Dog is a food consisting of a grilled or sausages served in the slit of a partially sliced bun. Technically it can be considered as a sandwich also. Preparation & ingredients of this recipe varies worldwide. 
 
Typical ingredients used in hot dog are mustard sauce, ketchup, relish, vegetables cheese etc. Commonly it is a non-veg dish, but in India vegetarian hot dog is also very popular. 
 
The main ingredient of hot dog is the meat in case of non-vegetarian version. In case of vegetarian hot dog the filling is usually based on some sort of soy protein, wheat gluten or pea protein.

Basically, it is a non-native Indian cuisine recipe. But it has been widely accepted by all age groups. Normally, it is served with a meat-based sausage roll with caramelized onion, but here I tried to made vegetarian sausage roll made with potatoes and paneer. 
So, let’s try to make this Indian, vegetarian version of Hot Dog. Enjoy cooking!
  • Preparation time – 10 minutes
  • Cooking time - 30 minutes
  • Serves – 4 person

Ingredients to make Hot Dog: 

For Hot Dog stuffing:
 
  • 2 tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon crushed garlic
  • 1 teaspoon crushed ginger
  • 1 small capsicum finely chopped
  • 1 ½ cups boiled & grated potatoes
  • ½ cup par boiled mix vegetables 
  • (green peas, carrot, sweet corn) 
  • Paneer from 1 liter milk
      or 
  • 250 grams
  • 4 to 5 tablespoon hot dog sauce
  • A hand full of freshly chopped coriander leaves
For sauce: 
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon crushed ginger
  • 1 teaspoon crushed garlic
  • 1 big onion finely chopped
  • 2 small tomatoes finely chopped
  • Salt to taste 
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoon red chili paste from kashhmiri red chilies
  • 2 tablespoon tomato ketchup 
  • For assembling: 
  • 4 hot dog buns
  • (I used medium sized)
  • 1 ½ to 2 tablespoon mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon hot dog sauce
  • Butter as per taste
  • Grated cheese as per taste

Method to make Veg Hot dog: 

For stuffing: 
  • Heat oil in a pan & add ginger, garlic & capsicum. Saute for a minute & then add parboiled mix vegetables. 
  • Cook for a minute & then add boiled & grated potato. Mix well. 
  • At last add paneer & hot dog sauce. Mix well. 
  • Add coriander leaves & keep a side to cool. 
  • Divide stuffing in four parts & make a sausage shape from it. Shellow fry on non-stick pan to give a crunch. 
  • Keep a side. 
For hot dog sauce: 
  • Heat oil in a pan and add ginger, garlic & onion to it. Sauté it until light brown in color. 
  • Now it’s time to add tomatoes. Cook them until soft. Add all dry spices & vinegar to it. Cook for 2 minutes. 
  • Add tomato ketchup, red paste and sugar to it. Add water to adjust consistency. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes at medium flame. Stir occasionally. 
  • Let it cook & blend to make smooth sauce. 
  • How to assemble: 
  • Slit a hot dog bun and apply butter, mayonnaise & prepared hot dog sauce to it. 
  • Apply butter on both top & bottom of the bun. Heat bun for movement until butter melts. 
  • Place stuffing (sausage) in slit & add grated cheese in to the slit along with sausage. 
  • Repeat the same for remaining. 
Our delicious hot dog is ready to serve.
